(“Speaking by the spirit”: This doesn't mean that a person absolutely has salvation if they can say the words that “Jesus is Lord”. Even the demons know that Jesus is Lord. James 2:19 Matthew 7:21-23. But rather, it means that God is the source of all true knowledge and the original source of all power and authority in the universe.)
Gift/powers = Greek Strong’s #5486 Charisma. Traditionally translated as “gift/s”. But more accurately translated in the AOB as power, empower, empowerment.
[Speaking in tongues: Notice that Paul never says that it’s a requirement. Neither did any other bible author, or Jesus.
Notice that verse 30 is abundantly clear that not every saved person has the power/gift of tongues.
Various gifts and various evidence of salvation, not just only speaking in tongues, which is fake most of the time.]
“Charisma” means power/empowerment compared to Greek 1390 “doma” which really does mean “gift”.

Luke 11:13 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Ghost/Spirit to those who ask Him?”
Acts 2:38 is an absolute promise of receiving The Holy Ghost at baptism based upon immersion, repentance, forgiveness of sins, and The Name of Jesus.
(Repentance from Sunday, Christmas, Easter, Trinity and other false doctrines and other sins.)
(Notice no requirement for speaking in tongues.)
It's a promise! Don’t have to beg over and over and over for years waiting to speak in tongues and trying to speak in tongues to prove that you have been saved, as I eye-witnessed in the Pentecostal churches. It’s mostly gibberish that is not really any real language. Real, true speaking on unknown tongues is extremely rare in modern times because of most people don’t have the real Holy Ghost, and even if you did, you might not have this specific gift of tongues, as there are many different possible divine gifts/powers that God would give us.
Mostly only the Pentecostals use the term “The Holy Ghost”, compared to other denominations that use the term “The Holy Spirit”. But notice that only the people who use the phrase/term “Holy Ghost” have empowerment, miracles, freedom of worship, actually worship God with raised hands and raised voices instead of being stagnant/still robots.
John 20:22 Jesus breathed The Holy Ghost upon them, some time after the resurrection, but before Pentecost. They didn’t speak in tongues.
Contrary to popular doctrine, the day of Pentecost wasn’t the very first time that a person received The Holy Ghost.

The phrase “Holy Spirit“ in Old Testament: (Extremely rare!)
Psalm 51:11 David asked that he not lose his salvation.
Isaiah 63:10-11 (While speaking about the 2nd coming of Christ.)
(Interesting that these 2 verses that speak about his 2nd coming, also uses the phrase "Holy Breath", which in the Old Testament appears only here and Psa. 51:11 and Wisdom of Solomon 1:5, 9:17. The Wis. of Sol. was written by Philo who also wrote Hebrews. The "Holy Breath" also appears in the Theodotion translation of Susanna but not in the more reliable Old Greek version.)
Wisdom of Solomon 1:5
9:17
(Written by Philo, who wrote Hebrews. Hebrews was most likely actually written even before Matthew)
(Also in the book of Susanna, but only in the Theodotion version influenced by 1st century AD vocally and religious doctrine of the time. It's not in the "Old Greek" version of Susanna.)
Revelation 7:3 (Compared to chapter 14) The Seal of The Holy Ghost at the 6th Seal on the Day of Pentecost, in the final year before Jesus returns, with the Name/Authority of Jesus via The Holy Ghost. It's the salvation and special anointing of these young virgin Israelite men.
But we don't have to wait for the 6th seal, and we don't have to be one of the 144,000 virgin Israelite males. We are already sealed if we are truly, really saved, which means that we have obeyed Acts 2:38 and many other verses, and not just only the confession of words and belief. But rather including the obedience to the "big 10" Commandments, etc.
Ephesians 1:13 Sealed with that Holy Ghost of promise,
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Ghost of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
2 Corinthians 1:22 Sealed.
Word "pledge" being a different Greek word than promise. Pledge is the first installment, the first small measure of The Holy Ghost, which must be built upon and grown in over time until we become complete in Christ with a much larger measure of salvation.
