:11-12 Sounds like it’s a total prohibition against all judging. But James himself judges people in verses 1-8. So it’s impossible to truly be a total prohibition against all judging. But rather, it’s teaching us to not be over condemning, overly judgmental in general on a daily basis. To focus on getting our own sins fixed first.
:7 We fast to submit ourselves to God. Full surrender. To put ourselves at his mercy.
It’s a confession of sins/fault. It’s giving all to God.
It’s putting God first, over and above all natural God given natural/right lust (food, sex, etc.), and over and above all evil/forbidden lust.
:8 We fast to get closer to God. To cry out to Him. To spend more time with Him. To seek Him.
:10 We fast to humble ourselves. To destroy pride. To examine ourselves. To exalt God, rather than self.
:11 We fast to confess our sins. So that our repentance is more than empty words.
We also fast to intercede for others.
-and for our own healing and deliverance.
-and for revelation. Moses fasted before receiving the 10 Commandments.

We fast on the Day of Atonement to ensure that we will be in the fullness of God’s Kingdom. It’s the action of the bride of Christ pressing her garments, cleaning them, getting the wrinkles out. Ephesians 5:27
